Our Equity Investment Process

Thorough analysis and detailed group discussions allow individual investment ideas to synthesize into portfolio opportunities.

Our proprietary screening process consists of four phases:

Equity Investment Process

MCM incorporates a top-down quantitative screening approach that identifies opportunities for bottom-up analysis. The result is our “master list” of 22-25 companies, which in our view, represents the most attractive investment opportunities available. MCM portfolio managers are assigned to specific industries, sectors, and stock positions. The Managers seek to complement quality growth stocks with mispriced securities – which, in our view, offers downside protection to market volatility while also allowing for greater dividend yield.

Some attributes of our fundamental, bottom-up research are:

Financial Modeling
• Strong cash flow/internal financing
• High/Rising profit margins
• Low Debt

Consistent Growth
• Unit volume increase
• Recurring revenue

Market Leading Position
• Comprehensive advantage

Management Style
• Leadership
• Stewardship of capital and stock ownership

The Investment Committee holds daily discussions and conducts formal bi-monthly meetings. During the meetings, the Committee reviews the market landscape, economic forecasts, sector outlooks, allocation weightings and ultimately the “master list” selection. A disciplined sell process is enforced by committee review – well-defined sell triggers are established and direction is adhered to.
