Key Investment Professionals Stephen B. Schuler
President and Portfolio Manager
Steve is the President of Maryland Capital Management and serves as a Principal and Portfolio Manager. He is also Chairman of the firm’s Investment Committee. Prior to joining MCM in 1999, he was a Director in the Private Client Group of Deutsche Bank Alex. Brown. He joined Alex. Brown & Sons in 1988 after working for Smith Barney Harris Upham for three years. Steve holds a B.A. from Hobart College and is a graduate of the Securities Industry Institute at the Wharton School of the University of Pennsylvania. His various community activities include service as a trustee of the Odyssey School in Baltimore, where he chairs both the Investment Committee and the Outreach Committee. Steve is also a member of the Annual Fund Board at the St. Paul’s School in Baltimore.

Frederick A. Allner, III
Principal and Portfolio Manager
Fred joined Maryland Capital Management in 2004 as a Principal and Portfolio Manager. He serves on the firm’s Investment Committee. Prior to joining MCM, he was a Vice President with the Private Wealth Management Group of Deutsche Bank Alex. Brown, where he had been for seventeen years. Fred received his B.A. from the Virginia Military Institute. Upon his graduation he completed one year of post-graduate studies at the University of Tübingen in Germany before entering the U.S. Army as a Second Lieutenant. Fred also attended the University of Baltimore M.B.A. program and the Securities Industry Institute at the Wharton School of the University of Pennsylvania. Fred is currently a Major in the Maryland Defense Force (MDDF). He serves as a board member on several charitable and social organizations in Baltimore.

John F. Blair
Principal and Portfolio Manager
John joined Maryland Capital Management in 2004 as a Principal and Portfolio Manager. He is a member of the firm’s Investment Committee. Prior to joining the firm, he served as a Vice President with the Private Wealth Management Group of Deutsche Bank Alex. Brown. He joined Alex. Brown & Sons in 1995 after serving two years as an Investment Executive with Kidder, Peabody & Co. John holds a B.A. from Wake Forest University and an M.B.A. from Loyola College. He is also a Certified Financial Planner TM. John has served as a board member on several charitable and social organizations. He currently serves on the Wake Forest University Alumni Council and is Chairman Emeritus of the Independent College Fund of Maryland. |
Gregory G. Heard
Principal and Portfolio Manager
Greg joined Maryland Capital Management in 2004 as a Principal and Portfolio Manager. He is on the firm’s Investment Committee. Prior to joining MCM, Greg was the Chief Financial Officer for Sequoia Software Corporation. During his tenure with Sequoia he completed a successful IPO and subsequent sale to Citrix Systems for $185 million. Prior to Sequoia, Greg was a Managing Director at Corbyn Investment Management and an Investment Analyst for the Greenspring Fund. Before Corbyn he spent several years in the accounting and business consulting fields as a manager with the Financial Advisory Practice of Coopers & Lybrand and as an auditor with Price Waterhouse in New York. He is a Certified Management Accountant and holds a B.S. and an M.B.A from Lehigh University. He currently serves on the Board of Directors at Catalyst I.T. Services.

Jeffrey L. Caples, CFA
Portfolio Manager
Jeff joined Maryland Capital Management in 2009 as a Portfolio Manager. He is a member of the firm's Investment Committee. Before joining Maryland Capital Management, Jeff was a Managing Director and Head of the Baltimore Portfolio Management Team for Legg Mason Investment Counsel & Trust. Prior to joining Legg Mason he was a Junior Portfolio Manager and Research Associate for Alex. Brown Capital Advisory & Trust and an Investment Representative with T. Rowe Price. Jeff is a Chartered Financial Analyst (CFA) and holds a B.A. from Denison University and an M.B.A. from the University of Maryland. He currently serves on the Board of Directors for the Robert H. Smith Foundation at the University of Maryland. Jeff is an active member of the CFA Institute, and the Baltimore CFA Society, where he served on the Board of Directors and was Chairman of the Programs and Membership Committees.

Jenks Cromwell
Portfolio Manager
Jenks joined Maryland Capital Management in 1988, following a twenty-six year career at T. Rowe Price Associates, Inc., where he served as director, vice president and senior portfolio manager. With Maryland Capital Management, his responsibilities are oriented toward portfolio management for high net worth individual investors. Jenks is a graduate of Yale University and the University of Maryland School of Law. Jenks is a retired director of Provident Bankshares Corp and a member of the Maryland State Bar Association and the American Bar Association. He is a Board member of the Basilica of the Assumption Historic Trust and a former Board member of Catholic Charities and the College of Notre Dame of Maryland.

Lisa M. Faherty
Principal, Vice President of Finance
Lisa joined Maryland Capital Management in 1999. She serves as the Chief Compliance Officer of the firm and has been a Principal of MCM since 2004. In addition to her compliance duties, Lisa oversees the daily accounting and financial operations of the firm. In prior roles, Lisa worked as an analyst for MCI and as an independent accountant. Lisa is a graduate of the College of Notre Dame of Maryland with a B.S. in Business Administration and holds an M.B.A. from Loyola College. She is a board member of the Institute of Notre Dame where she serves as a member of the Finance Committee.

Brendan Sweeney
Brendan joined Maryland Capital Management in 2010. Prior to joining MCM, he worked as a Sales Operations Analyst with Sybase 365. His responsibilities include fundamental research and portfolio administration. He holds a B.S. in Finance from the University of Maryland.

Nicholas Petrelli
Nick joined Maryland Capital Management in 2009. Prior to joining MCM, he worked as a Research Analyst with Hardesty Capital Management. His responsibilities include fundamental research and portfolio administration. He holds a B.A. in Business, Organization and Society from Franklin and Marshall College.

Andrew joined Maryland Capital Management in 2009. Prior to joining MCM, he worked as a Financial Modeling Analyst with Standard and Poor’s. His responsibilities include fundamental research and portfolio administration. He holds a BBA in Finance from Loyola College in Maryland.

Receptionist/Administrative Assistant
Dawn joined Maryland Capital Management in 2007. Her responsibilities include greeting visitors to the firm, directing incoming phone calls and providing general administrative support to the MCM staff.
